Hello everyone,

I am off to India for 10 weeks from the middle of September and for the
first 6 of those weeks I will be in Darjeeling and will be doing
volunteering teaching work at a local school and then helping at a local
orphanage for destitute girls run by a Buddhist monk.

I understand that the children are absolutely desperate for clothes, many
don't even have socks to put on which is a bit horrendous given that
Darjeeling itself is at 6ooo feet and will get fairly chilly. Consequently I
am going to take out with me as much as I can carry in the way of supplies -
children's socks, vests, dresses, jumpers etc etc! At present I am
negotiating with BA with whom I am flying to let me have some excess baggage
allowance.

Sooo - does anyone have any old unwanted clothes from their own children /
grandchildren / friends' children that I could take, or failing that would
anyone like to make a small financial contribution - I will take pennies! -
(or a huge one if you felt so compelled) to add to my own fund so that I can
go and raid Asda or similar and stock up?
I will be at Camera Club for the first two sessions in September and would
be glad of any contribution that anyone would feel like making.

I am in process of setting up a blog so that anyone interested can follow
progress and I will try and post photos. Following Darjeeling we are heading
further up into the Himalayas into Sikkim then down to the plains - Delhi,
Chandigarh, a couple of temple towns plus Varanasi and Calcutta. Back by the
end of November.
I also promise to show you the photos if you would lke to see them!

Best wishes,
Marilyn
